Last week’s read… this book has helped me better understand and process some of the experiences I have had as an educator in selective and competitive schools over the years. When you know that the students and staff in your care are doing everything they need to do to meet their targets, add value and chase their dreams, but you can see that they are tireder, unhappier and more detached than ever then you know that something about the system isn’t right.
As an educational leader, it’s your job to create that system and Helen Street’s description of Contextual Wellbeing sheds light on some of the things that can be done to tip the system in favour of self-determination, lifelong learning and mental health.
There is so much in it to unpack, which is what I’ll be doing this week with a friend and former colleague… we will share what we come up with.
