Sustainist Leadership

After a few months of research, preparation and articulating our ideas to each other, we submitted our application to the team at the UWC Short Course Development Initiative (SCDI) for a programme that we are calling the Sustainist Leadership Lab. Our plan is to bring 48 youth from around the world to live, work and learn together about sustainism, sustainable development, public value addition, circular economies, collaboration and community activism.

The first part of the course pulls together the theory, policy and case studies from a variety of fields, then introduces sustainism, sustainist practice and the processes that support it.
The second part of the course is the incubator phase where participants put into practice what they have learned and create a plan to take action in their communities when they return.

Throughout the process we were supported by the SCDI and the incredible resources they and other UWC short course creators and leaders have put together. Some of the best people we have worked with over the years do this, turning their experiments, successes and failures into a manual of how-to, don’t-forget, what-to-avoid and who-might-help; great leadership is built around sharing.

We met some new people in the UWC community and reconnected with other collaborators from the past, learning from their experience and generosity. Some of them will become part of the Sustainist Leadership Lab team, as faculty, speakers and knowledge partners.

We are delighted that we have been given the endorsement by the UWC SCDI to run the course for the the next four years and are looking forward to building the team of faculty and facilitators.
